At an Arizona campaign stop, the White House cited 119,000 jobs protected by Trump’s tax law. The figure comes from an earlier estimate of jobs that could have been at risk.
President Donald Trump campaigned in Bullhead City, Arizona, on 14 October as the White House promoted what it called a “record of results” on jobs, taxes and security. But its claim that his tax legislation safeguarded 119,000 Arizona jobs rests on a forecast made before the law passed, not a count of jobs retained. [1] [2] [9]
Trump visited to support Republican Andy Biggs, who is challenging Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs in the 3 November election, according to the Associated Press. The White House statement accompanying the visit also credited Trump’s policies with attracting investment, reducing crime and strengthening the border. [1] [9]
The jobs figure comes from a January 2025 study prepared by EY for the National Association of Manufacturers. It estimated that allowing certain tax provisions to expire or phase out *could put* 119,000 Arizona jobs, $11 billion in employee compensation and $22 billion in state economic output at risk, compared with a scenario in which the provisions remained in place. The White House presented those same figures as jobs, wages and output already safeguarded by legislation enacted in July 2025. EY’s estimate addressed a hypothetical policy change; it did not measure the law’s subsequent effects. [1] [2]
The statement also used the slogan “No Tax on Social Security” and said about 1.3 million older Arizonans benefit from a new deduction. The Internal Revenue Service describes a deduction of up to $6,000 for eligible people aged 65 or over from 2025 to 2028, which phases out above modified adjusted income of $75,000, or $150,000 for joint filers. Social Security benefits can still be taxable, depending on other income. The eligibility rules do not establish how many Arizonans have received the deduction. [1] [3] [4]
Other figures refer to awards or investment plans rather than completed outcomes. Arizona was awarded $166,988,956 in federal rural healthcare funding for fiscal year 2026, announced in December 2025; the award does not show what has been spent or what care has improved. TSMC’s $200 billion expansion cited by the White House comprises two additional $100 billion investment announcements, made in March 2025 and July 2026. The chipmaker says its first Phoenix factory began large-scale production in late 2024, while further facilities remain in development. [1] [5] [6] [7]
Likewise, the $179 million cited for a Phoenix water-purification facility was announced in July 2025 for design and construction, when the federal agency said its agreement with the city was still being finalised. The White House also attributed falls in border apprehensions and violent crime to Trump’s policies and cited increased drug seizures as evidence of reduced trafficking. Those comparisons alone do not establish what caused the changes, while seizures are not a measure of how much drug trafficking occurred.
