Two of the five essays nominated for the Joost Zwagerman Essay Prize have been withdrawn after an AI-detection scan indicated that they were partly produced with artificial intelligence, the jury said. The withdrawals followed a report by the student magazine Propria Cures. [1]
The jury said the prize is intended to recognise emerging writing talent and that both the work of nominees and the winning essay should reflect an individual perspective. It said it would tighten the prize’s rules and procedures. [1]
The €7,500 prize has been awarded annually since 2018, on the birthday of the Dutch writer Joost Zwagerman. This year’s ceremony is due to take place at Theater de Vest in Alkmaar. [1]
