Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, met US officials in Washington on Monday, 28 September, to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. An American official, speaking anonymously, described the conversation as “constructive”. [1] [2]
The discussions also covered possible US–Russia energy initiatives after the war, AP and ANP/Reuters reported. ANP/Reuters said Dmitriev met representatives of the US Treasury and Energy departments. [1] [2]
The meeting followed separate discussion of a possible halt to strikes on energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Axios on 23 September that Ukraine was ready to discuss a US proposal for such a halt, but said he doubted Putin would follow through. That proposal is distinct from the postwar energy initiatives discussed in Washington. [3]
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said last week that a meeting involving Russia, Ukraine and the US could take place soon, but gave no details. [4]
