A Wizz Air flight from London to Sofia made an emergency landing in Budapest after a bomb threat, with a Hungarian fighter jet escorting the aircraft. The airline said security checks found nothing and the plane was expected to depart again shortly.
Wizz Air said the aircraft and passengers underwent checks after landing at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The plane taxied to a designated stand for the inspection, which the airline later said had been completed with nothing found. It said it was cooperating with authorities.
Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendis said the flight requested permission to land in Budapest after the threat was received. He said a Gripen fighter jet took off within minutes to escort it, then returned to base as police took charge of the incident.
Flight-tracking data cited by the BBC showed flight 4302 left London Luton at 08:33 GMT. It landed in Budapest at 11:09 GMT, rather than continuing to Sofia, where it had been due to arrive at 11:25 GMT.
