Casimir Schmidt has been named in the five-man Dutch gymnastics squad for the world championships in Rotterdam after a left-shoulder injury kept him out of August’s European championships in Zagreb. The 30-year-old showed enough fitness in qualifying competitions to earn selection. Elijah Faverus, Amine Abaidi, Jermain Grünberg and Jordi Hagenaar complete the squad. [1]
Pommel-horse specialist and Olympic finalist Loran de Munck misses out. He had a biceps injury during qualifying, but the Dutch gymnastics federation, KNGU, says he was left out under its selection procedure. At the European championships, the Netherlands finished ninth with De Munck but without Schmidt, missing the eight-team final by four-tenths. [1]
De Munck and first-year senior Kyan Jacobs have been named as reserves for the final preparation period. One will travel with the team to the championships, which run from 17 to 25 October at Ahoy Rotterdam. [1]
