Christina Applegate says doctors have concluded she does not have multiple sclerosis, five years after she was diagnosed with the disease. She continues to experience debilitating symptoms and says she is now facing fresh tests to find out what is causing them. [1]
The actor described the news as upsetting on her podcast, *Messy*, saying she had been in tears when her doctor told her. “You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of a sudden I’m better,” she said. “If anything, I’ve gotten worse.” [1]
Applegate said her doctor had suggested stopping her MS infusion treatment to see how her body responded. Doctors later reviewed her case and concluded she did not have the autoimmune disease, which can cause stiffness and problems with walking and talking. She said an investigation into her daily symptoms was due to begin the following week. [1]
Dr Marwa Kaisey, a guest on the podcast episode, said MS can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms vary and there is no single definitive test. She said one in five people told they had MS did not have it. [1]
Applegate first announced her MS diagnosis in August 2021. She has since spoken publicly about depression and mobility difficulties, including using a cane and a wheelchair while filming *Dead to Me*. [1]
