Prince Harry says he wants to reconcile with his father and brother, telling GQ that repairing family relationships is important amid “everything else that’s going on in the world”.
“Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” he said in the interview, conducted in New York last month and published on Tuesday. Harry also spoke about letting go of past hurt, saying: “Scars stick around forever.” [1]
A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said the remark about some people not wanting reconciliation was not aimed at Prince William or any other family member. The spokesman said the publishers had decided when to release the interview and that nothing should be read into its timing. [1]
Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals and moved to the United States in 2020. Harry’s memoir, *Spare*, described the breakdown in his relationship with William. He has previously spoken about wanting to build bridges, including in a BBC interview in May 2025. [1]
In the GQ interview, Harry said family disagreements were “massively relatable”, describing how often people spoke to him about strained relationships between siblings and parents. He also reflected on his mother Diana’s death in 1997, saying he could now carry her memory through his work rather than be held back by grief. [1]
