The Community Security Trust (CST) recorded 95 antisemitic incidents linked to UK universities in the 2025–26 academic year, up from 83 the year before, BBC News reports. The charity’s definition covers incidents involving students, staff or academics in their university capacity, whether on campus or online. [1]
The latest count remains well below the 272 incidents CST recorded in 2023–24, but above the 53 recorded in 2022–23. Abusive behaviour was the most common type of incident across the two most recent academic years. CST also recorded six assaults, eight incidents of damage or desecration to Jewish property, and ten threats across those two years. [1]
Around two-thirds of the reported incidents involved antisemitic language or targeting alongside references to Israel, Gaza, Hamas or the wider conflict. CST says criticism of Israel or Zionism is not inherently antisemitic. [1]
Universities UK called the findings a serious concern and said universities must protect Jewish students and staff. England’s education secretary, Lucy Powell, said universities were expected to take a zero-tolerance approach to antisemitism. [1]
