Go Ahead Eagles beat Excelsior 1-0 in Rotterdam on Saturday, with Eredivisie top scorer Søren Tengstedt’s late goal lifting the visitors to 17 points and provisionally eighth place.
The match offered few chances: neither side managed a shot on target in the first half, and Go Ahead’s first came in the 68th minute. Mathis Suray crossed for Tengstedt five minutes later, and the forward scored his ninth league goal of the season to move back ahead as the competition’s outright top scorer.
Excelsior thought David Garden had equalised, but his goal was ruled out for offside. They remain 15th on 11 points.
