Sint-Eustatius recorded the highest average ratings for happiness and life satisfaction among the three Caribbean Netherlands islands in a 2025 survey.

Residents aged 15 and over on Sint-Eustatius gave happiness an average score of 8.5 out of 10 in 2025, compared with 8.2 on Saba and 8.0 on Bonaire. Average life-satisfaction scores were 8.4, 8.2 and 7.9 respectively, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported. [1]
Sint-Eustatius also had the largest share of residents who felt daily life for people on their island had improved over the previous five years: 60%, against 37% on Bonaire and 33% on Saba. On Saba, 45% said daily life had worsened, compared with 29% on Bonaire and 8% on Sint-Eustatius. These answers describe residents’ views of life on their island, rather than changes in each respondent’s own circumstances. [1]
CBS said residents of Sint-Eustatius were more satisfied with their financial situation in 2025 than in 2021, while other satisfaction ratings there were similar across the two years. It reported no change in happiness and satisfaction scores on Bonaire and Saba. CBS did not investigate why residents felt daily life on their islands had improved or worsened. [1]
