Temperatures fell below zero in parts of the southern Netherlands overnight on Thursday, bringing the country’s first local frost day of the autumn, according to Weeronline. The late arrival comes as the first local frost day typically occurs around 25 October, based on the period from 1996 to 2025.
The frost was recorded in parts of Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland. At the standard measuring height of 1.5 metres, Eindhoven reached minus 0.3°C and Deelen minus 0.5°C, the ANP report said.
It was the first time this year that temperatures had fallen below zero since 15 May. Frost at ground level had already been recorded in Twente on 25 September, when the temperature near the grass fell to minus 0.4°C.
The Netherlands has not yet had a national frost day: that requires a sub-zero temperature at De Bilt.
