Frankfurt police brought the situation under control after midnight following riots in the city centre, but an official update does not confirm whether officers were still deployed there the next day.
Hesse’s Interior Ministry said more than 1,000 officers were sent to the city during the violence on Saturday night, with a heavy presence on the Zeil shopping street and in central Frankfurt. The statement, issued on 2 November, describes the response but does not say police remained in place on that date.
Authorities’ initial tally, reported by Tagesschau on 1 November, recorded 54 arrests, 100 injured police officers, five looted shops and 17 damaged shops. Police also said they had issued 1,225 dispersal orders and checked 366 people. The figures relate to the initial account of events, which continued deep into the night.
The violence followed a largely peaceful Generation Z demonstration. Police said a smaller group became violent towards the end of the protest, while a separate group was responsible for later rioting in the Zeil and elsewhere in the city centre. Organisers of the demonstration said they had no influence over what happened after it ended and condemned the violence.
Frankfurt mayor Mike Josef condemned the destruction and attacks, saying those responsible should face legal consequences. Interior Minister Roman Poseck called for tougher action and said he did not want a comparable demonstration to take place in Frankfurt on 20 November.
