The Red Cross said 113 asylum seekers stayed at the two shelters on the night of Friday 25 to Saturday 26 September 2026: 43 in Warffum, Groningen, and 70 in Zuidwolde, Drenthe. Each shelter has room for 100 people. Both had been nearly full on each of the previous two nights. [1]
The shelters provide beds for asylum seekers unable to stay at the reception facility by the Ter Apel registration centre. They are taken to the shelters in the evening and return to Ter Apel in the morning. [1]
