Sheep can return to North Holland’s mainland Wadden Sea dykes after the drought, but the grazing ban will remain in place on Texel.

The Hollands Noorderkwartier water authority (HHNK) has lifted the grazing ban on North Holland’s mainland Wadden Sea dykes. Sheep can return from Monday 28 September after the grass recovered from a period of drought. The ban had been in place since early August. [1]
Grazing on the mainland dykes will be allowed until 15 October, when the storm season begins. The ban remains in force on Texel: HHNK says the grass on its Wadden Sea dyke needs more time to grow strong enough. Grazing there is due to resume in April. [1]
A separate drought-related ban on 2,600 kilometres of polder dykes in Friesland and part of Groningen was lifted in early September, allowing livestock to return. [1]
