Wang Cong is due to fight Natalia Silva for the vacant UFC women’s flyweight title at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City on Saturday. Before bouts, Cong dyes her hair green and paints her face white with a red grin. She says the look helps her “feel the fear” in opponents and improves her performance. Her inspiration, she says, is the joker playing card rather than Batman’s villain. [1]
Silva is the UFC’s top-ranked flyweight and has won 14 consecutive fights across promotions, BBC Sport reports. Valentina Shevchenko vacated the title because of injury the previous month. Cong is ranked sixth and has won her last four fights. [1]
Cong said she was surprised to receive the title shot, but pointed out that fighters ranked above her had recently competed or already had bouts booked. A win would make her the second Chinese UFC champion, after former strawweight title holder Zhang Weili. [1]
