PSG extend Luis Enrique’s deal to 2030 as title push continues

Paris Saint-Germain have extended Luis Enrique’s contract until 2030 and announced new deals for Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, Willian Pacho, Lucas Beraldo and Senny Mayulu, BBC Sport reports. [1]

The report presents the contracts as a sign of a long-term project and describes PSG as pursuing a third consecutive Champions League title and a third successive French league title. It says that, ahead of Wednesday’s visit to the Etihad Stadium, PSG were sixth in Ligue 1, with three wins, two draws and one defeat. [1]

BBC Sport’s writer identifies greater squad depth as a significant change. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Le Mans, Luis Enrique fielded eight players the writer would not expect to start bigger matches, then brought on four leading players while the score was level. The writer argues that PSG can now rest key players without weakening the team. [1]

Younger players have also had time with the manager. During the recent international break, only four first-team players remained at PSG, while 16 academy players were away with national sides, according to BBC Sport. The report says Luis Enrique spent three weeks training with the youngsters who stayed. [1]
