Everton manager David Moyes says Jack Grealish can still have a future at the club, but he does not know when the winger will be available again after a disciplinary issue and questions over his fitness.
Grealish missed both of Everton’s recent wins over Newcastle. The club left him out of Thursday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory after what was thought to be an unauthorised absence from training. He was also absent from Monday’s 1-0 Premier League win, with Everton citing a lack of fitness.
Moyes declined to clarify whether the disciplinary matter had been resolved. “No, I can’t comment on that,” he told BBC Sport when asked. On Grealish’s availability, he said the club would decide when it considered him ready to return. Asked if there was a way back for the player, Moyes replied: “Of course there is.”
Grealish is on loan from Manchester City for a second spell at Everton. He scored twice in 22 appearances last season, before injury cut short his loan. He had made six appearances this season before his recent absence. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
Everton’s next match is at home to Coventry on Friday, but Moyes was unsure whether Grealish would be available. The latest absence follows an earlier disciplinary breach that led Everton to drop him from their squad.
