First Bus stopped its 240 service travelling through Viewpark, near Bellshill, on Friday night after four buses were attacked within two hours. The route links Glasgow city centre with Overtown, near Wishaw; the change affected its passage through Viewpark, not the whole route. [1]
A letter from the operator to local representatives, reported by the BBC, said three buses were targeted with missiles. A fourth was attacked after someone activated a bus’s emergency engine button, stopping its engine and cutting power. Another bus had been attacked in Viewpark the previous Monday, leaving a broken window. [1]
First Bus said the attacks put staff and passengers at risk and left some customers stranded. It warned that it might withdraw services from the area. [1]
Councillor Helen Loughran suggested young people were responsible, but First Bus told the BBC it could not verify that. It is unclear when the 240 will resume travelling through Viewpark. [1]
