The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam plans to display Willem de Kooning’s Woman I (1950–1952) and Woman and Bicycle (1952–1953) in a room of their own in its Gallery of Honour from 9 October to 17 January. The room will be close to Rembrandt’s The Night Watch. [1]
The display accompanies Willem de Kooning at work, an exhibition that includes more than 120 drawings, paintings and sculptures. ANP describes it as the museum’s first major presentation in the Netherlands of De Kooning’s drawn work. [1]
Rijksmuseum director Taco Dibbits said De Kooning’s Dutch origins and connection to a long tradition of Dutch masters made the Gallery of Honour a fitting place for his work. [1]
