Welsh filmmaker Jamie Adams says bringing Quentin Tarantino, Kylie Minogue and Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA to his hometown of Porthcawl for his new film felt surreal. The film, *Tangled Up in Blue*, was shot in south Wales earlier this year, including at a pub once run by Adams’s father.
Tarantino plays a talent manager who has spent 40 years managing famous clients before becoming stranded at a hotel bar between an old flame and a lost soul. Adams said the project took shape after he made a film in France last year using his improvisational approach, in which scenes are developed spontaneously rather than from a pre-written script.
He said Tarantino enjoyed the process and was keen to film in Adams’s hometown. Minogue, whose family has roots near Porthcawl, also agreed to take part after telling Adams she rarely had the chance to visit Wales.
Filming took place in Cardiff and Porthcawl, including at the Ship and Castle pub, where Adams said the bar was a boat his father had brought from Weymouth. He recalled sharing a pint there with Tarantino and speaking with an old friend.
Adams said the production had become a talking point locally. There is no release date yet, but he is aiming to release the film in summer 2027 and hopes to hold its premiere in Cardiff with the cast in attendance.
