Catherine Debrunner beat Sabastian Sawe at rock, paper, scissors to decide the order of the elite races at the 2027 London Marathon. Hugh Brasher, chief executive of London Marathon Events, said the game settled which day would host each race. Debrunner and Sawe won their respective races at the 2026 event. [1]
The elite men’s and men’s wheelchair races are scheduled for Saturday 24 April, with the women’s events on Sunday 25 April. The women’s championship categories will line up behind the women’s elite field for the first time at the London race. The main events on both days will have mixed fields of male, female and non-binary participants. [1]
Organisers planned the two-day format to allow more people to take part after 1.33 million entries to the ballot. Brasher said separating the elite races would give their athletes a greater spotlight. [1]
The event is planned for 100,000 participants, with charitable fundraising estimated at more than £150m. [1]
